Pursuing Workers' Compensation for Work-Related Amputations

We understand the dramatic changes in one’s quality of life and abilities that result from an amputation accident at work. You have suffered a major loss that has cost you much more than the thousands of dollars in medical bills you now face. Your very livelihood has been put into question.

At Adler Firm, PLLC, we want to help you. If you were injured on the job, our Michigan amputation lawyer can help you bring a workers’ compensation claim to recover compensation for medical care, lost wages, and, if necessary, job retraining and vocational rehabilitation.

We know the idea of adding another cost to your growing list of concerns is frightening. That is why we work on a contingency fee basis—if we take on your case, you owe no fees unless and until we recover monetary benefits for you.

Contact us for a free, no-obligation consultation with an experienced amputation work injury lawyer with locations near Traverse City and Detroit.

How Can I Recover Workers’ Compensation After My Amputation?

Michigan’s Workers’ Disability Compensation Act entitles you to unlimited medical care and the on-the-job education you need to perform another line of work after an amputation or other work injury. How do you recover that compensation?

First, you must notify your employer, in writing, of your accident as soon as possible after your injury. Then, you have up to two years to file an official workers’ compensation claim.

During the first 28 days of your care, your employer may dictate what medical facility and/or physician you must visit. After that initial medical consultation, however, you may choose your own doctor and care as long as you provide your chosen practitioner’s name to your employer in writing.

If your employers’ insurance company denies benefits or doesn’t offer sufficient benefits to cover your amputation injury, you must file a timely appeal to contest the carrier’s decision or you will be forced to pay for the services the insurance company has denied.

Why Should I Hire a Work Accident Lawyer?

While a workers’ compensation claim may seem simple on the surface and your injury—an amputated leg or arm—may seem obvious, you can still expect an insurance company to lowball your claim or deny you coverage for services you need to get better and find employment.

Attorney Barry Adler has more than 35 years of experience in such legal matters and our firm has won more than 100 workers’ compensation cases. Attorney Adler knows what it takes to obtain benefits in amputation work injury cases and will use that knowledge to help you provide the right documentation and recover the amount of compensation to which you are entitled by law.

If an insurance company denies a claim or does not provide adequate compensation, our law firm can also help you bring a workers’ compensation appeal on your behalf.
